Abide and bear fruit

God named Ishmael ‘God hears’ before he was born. Years later, God heard Ishmael’s cry when he was perishing in the wilderness and opened his mother’s eyes to see a spring of water from which she gave him drink – and he lived! Islam claims Ishmael as a spiritual forefather. Today’s Muslims are in the wilderness perishing and crying out for living water. Let the Church pray to the Father to reveal the well of living water, Jesus, so they might live!
Abide and bear fruit

In October about nine hundred missionaries to Muslims, including former Muslims and a significant contingent from the global south, assembled and spent their time together developing, writing and agreeing to “The Abide Bear Fruit Commitment”. I first saw it at a CNMM prayer meeting a few weeks ago and was thrilled when I read it, for several reasons.

First, it is collaborative, the product of corporate listening to God by a wide representation of seasoned ministers in the field guided by wise leaders who didn’t just do another conference or training session. Second, it’s biblical, grounded in the written and Living Word and filled with the Spirit. Third, it begins and ends with Jesus, who is the Beginning and the End. The Commitment is therefore a unifying document in a mission field that has been much divided. For a large representation of the body of Christ to agree with the Lord and each other to abide and bear fruit together is a major victory in the spirit realm.

David Garrison’s global study of Muslim-background followers of Christ, reported in A Wind in the House of Islam, has greatly encouraged missionaries to Muslims with its conclusion that more Muslims have come to Christ in the first 12 years of the 21st century than in the previous 14 centuries, in a movement that is taking place across the Muslim world. God is at work among Muslims and among missionaries to Muslims!

Over the coming weeks, I invite you to enjoy reading these compelling scriptures and praying from them for the portion of the body of Christ who are extending the Kingdom of God among Muslims.

We commit to faithfully obey, boldly preach, and widely sow the whole Word of God, making disciples among every Muslim people group by lovingly demonstrating Biblical truth.

We commit to regularly pray and fast with perseverance, individually and corporately, for church planting movements among every Muslim people group.


Galatians 2:20, John 12:24, Luke 9:23, 1 Corinthians 15:31

We commit to follow Jesus, taking up our cross daily for the effective engagement of every Muslim people group.


In the love of God, by His grace, and for His glory, we commit to God and each other to abide in Jesus, be filled with the Spirit, preach the Word, intercede, and die daily, believing that every Muslim people group will experience a church planting movement.
