The powerful name of Jesus

God named Ishmael ‘God hears’ before he was born. Years later, God heard Ishmael’s cry when he was perishing in the wilderness and opened his mother’s eyes to see a spring of water from which she gave him drink – and he lived! Islam claims Ishmael as a spiritual forefather. Today’s Muslims are in the wilderness perishing and crying out for living water. Let the Church pray to the Father to reveal the well of living water, Jesus, so they might live!
The powerful name of Jesus

Last week I wrote about a significant part of the modern prayer movement for salvation of Muslims, the 30 Days of Prayer for the Muslim World, which since 1993 (25 years) has been using the annual celebration of Ramadan to educate, encourage and guide the global church to pray for the harvest in the fields of Islam. Since 2000, the number of movements to Christ among Muslims has increased dramatically worldwide, as documented by David Garrison in A Wind in the House of Islam. God hears prayer!

Jesus prayed that those who would believe in Him through the gospel message would be one with each other and with the godhead (Jn 17: 20-23). Since He always prayed only in the Father’s will, we know that His prayer will be answered. To align with what the Spirit is doing through 30 Days prayer, I won’t write the GHPL for the next month. Instead, please obtain a 2018 copy of the 30 Days prayer booklet, or request on-line updates at https://www.30daysprayer.com. Joining the global church to pray for the Muslim world is one small way we can do our part in answering Jesus’ prayer. But don’t think your prayers are small – especially when they’re joined with those of the global church!

The fast/feast of Ramadan is both a focal point for Christians to pray for Muslims and a convenient time because Muslims are generally unavailable for ministry, being preoccupied with the practical aspects of fasting as well as trying to please God through non-stop piety. That doesn’t mean it’s time for us to take a break.

Consider that for 30 days starting May 15, 1.6 billion people will be charging the spiritual atmosphere by praying and sacrificing daily to a god who denies Jesus is Lord.

So let’s pray for Muslims AND recognize that Ramadan offers an occasion for us to intentionally, joyfully and confidently exalt the name of JESUS

  • The name above every other name (Php 2:9)
  • The name to whom every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Php 2:10)
  • The only name under heaven given to humankind by which we can be saved (Ac 4:12)

Intentionally exalt the name of JESUS: Praise establishes the Lord’s manifest presence. Praise elevates our faith for answered prayer. Praise invites Him to come and do what only He can do.

Joyfully exalt the name of JESUS: His goodness, His love, His paying the price for everyone who believes to escape His righteous wrath and enter His presence, His Holy Spirit continually comforting and guiding us – how can we not rejoice! Our God loves, and this is what and whom we have to offer the world.

Confidently exalt the name of JESUS: “Jesus’ body was torn open to give us free and fresh access to Him!” (Heb 10:20 The Passion)  “Therefore…we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place” (Heb 10:19). Our prayers for Muslims are heard in the Most Holy place.

The name of JESUS – what a beautiful, wonderful, powerful name! Here is a worship song you may wish to sing and declare as you exalt the name of JESUS in the earth during Ramadan 2018 and beyond: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQWFzMvCfLE
